Did you know that homemade sausage rolls are actually super simple to make – and taste so much better than the shop-bought kind? I make these little cutie sausage rolls at home all the time, and honestly, we’ve completely stopped buying them from the supermarket. There’s just something unbeatable about freshly baked Quick and Easy Homemade Sausage Rolls straight from your own oven – warm, flaky, golden and packed with flavour.

Perfect for parties, picnics or a light dinner

These sausage rolls are brilliant for all sorts of occasions – perfect for a party spread (especially for kids!), a picnic or a light family dinner. I made a whole batch for my daughter’s birthday party last weekend and they went down very well.

Tonight, we had them again, just a small batch, as we’d had a big lunch after spending the day at a beautiful tulip farm and a big lunch. I didn’t feel like cooking anything heavy, so these Quick and Easy Homemade Sausage Rolls were the perfect choice. Light, comforting and done in no time.

Only three ingredients – that’s it!

Yes, really – just three ingredients. No fuss, no long shopping list and they’re all available from any local supermarket.

ingredients

Puff pastry

You can make your own, but I usually go for the ready-rolled kind from the supermarket; it’s affordable, saves loads of time, and still gives a gorgeous, flaky texture.

Sausage meat

This is just what it says – seasoned pork mince, often with herbs and a bit of starch to hold it together. It’s full of flavour, so you don’t need to add any extra seasoning.

Egg

One beaten egg is all you need to brush the pastry. It helps give that perfect golden colour and a lovely crispy finish.

How to make Quick and Easy Homemade Sausage Rolls

Assemble

Cut your puff pastry sheet in half lengthwise. Divide the sausage meat in two and place each half in a long line down one side of the pastry strips. Shape it slightly with your hands to get an even roll.

Roll and seal

Brush a little egg wash along the edges of the pastry, then gently roll it over the sausage meat, sealing it with the egg. Place the sealed side underneath so they stay neat while baking.

Slice and bake

Cut the rolls into pieces – around 3 to 4 cm long – or go bigger if you prefer. Place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper, with a little space between them. Brush the tops with more egg wash.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 15 minutes, then increase the heat to 220°C for the final 5 minutes. This helps them get that gorgeous colour and a crispy finish.
